Now that you have a hard wood floor installed in your home, you will want to protect your investment. You should clean the floor regularly and watch for things that can harm the wood.
Some of items to watch out for include:
- Dirt – Dirt, sand, and grit is one of the worst items to have on your wood floor. It kind of acts like sandpaper, which can damage the finish.
- Liquid Spills – This includes water. A liquid standing on your wood floor can warp the finish
- Harsh Cleaners – Do not use oil soaps. This leaves a build up that can harm your flooring.
- Furniture – Do not drag furniture across your wood floor. This can cause scuffs and scratches.
- Sunlight – Direct sunlight can discolor your hardwood floor.
The best way to keep your hard wood floor clean is by:
- Sweeping – You should use a broom with fine ends that trap dust.
- Vacuum – Canister vacuums with special bare wood floor attachments are best
- Dust Mop – A nice dust mop with a 12-inch to 18-inch cotton head. Always apply the dust mop treatment to the mop and not directly to the wood floor.
